What is this class about?  It is about the ethical use of information technology in the world today. You need to focus on these fundamental questions:

  • What is information technology and how is it quantitatively different from technology that has come before?
  • What does it mean to ask an ethical question, applying it to information technology?
  • What can you do to make the introduction of new information technology into society something good for the world?

IT Systems

Information technology is defined as any advancement using digital information and/or the integrated circuit. We have to set the boundaries of our debate and you need to understand the fundamentals of the technology we are discussing. 

Global Impact

Each of the IT systems we study can possibly effect one or more of the following areas. We will study Business, Government and Entertainment.
  1. Business and employment
  2. Education
  3. Health
  4. Arts, entertainment and leisure.
  5. Science and the environment
  6. Politics and government
