“Gooooal” Blanco scored again! All I could think was that one day that’s going to be me. The 1998 World Cup match México vs. Japan is often called the “Beautiful Game.” This was the first time I saw my favorite player Cuauhtémoc Blanco perform the Cuautemiña or the Blanco Trick. In the trick, when two or more opposition players are trying to take the ball from him, he traps the ball between his feet and jumps through them releasing it in the air and landing it under control as he leaves them behind. The trick is difficult to perform but is eye-catching and has been incorporated as a special skill into the FIFA series of football games. I knew I wanted to have those kinds of moves. I practiced all the time playing soccer with my friends. When I got to high school, I finally had my chance to be a part of an official team.
It was the first month of high school and there was only one thing I wanted to do; play soccer! I joined the soccer team at school. I worked hard to learn that sport, but I didn’t work hard in my classes. It was only September 11, 2006 when Coach Stan told me to shape up. Well I didn’t shape up. I ended up failing three of my classes. Because of the “F’s” I couldn’t play two games in the playoffs.
In my junior year I wanted get to play soccer again, but this time I was passing all of my classes. That year, I played on the junior varsity team and was ready for everything. Like Blanco, I created my own move that made three players go off balance. My teammates remember that trick to this day. However, we didn’t make the playoffs that year but playing on that team and passing classes was a great Accomplishment for me. I never did have a chance to do my favorite move, the Cuautemiña; well, maybe next year. In the middle of the year the team went to train the little kids at my old school to get them ready for high school soccer. I’ve been learning new soccer trick all year and use those move against my teammates. Over the summer I wanted to join a team to play at the park and show off my skills to every player. I went to soccer camp at Kelly Park to train and get ready for my last year for the team. If worked because this year! The Junior Varsity soccer teams are won the city championship October 14, 2009! Wednesday night was the biggest game in my life. It was for the City Championship; Kelly vs. Lane Tech. One of our players gave a nice free kick to score a goal for the title. It took me four years to get there and now we are city champions. My next step is to Kennedy King or Daley College Because I heard they have a soccer team. I’m going to play there for two years and go to a top university in the state. Five years I can see myself playing with the Chicago Fire.
