The Sophomore Half Cap celebration will be next Wednesday, May 19th during 7th and 8th periods in the Auditorium. This event is hosted by the Kelly HS Counseling Department with the African American Heritage Club and Student Council. The Half Cap celebration is exclusively for Sophomore students who have done well the past two years in high school. It is a moment to salute these students who have put in hard work in order to prepare for life after high school which will be in 2 years. We are inviting parents to come and cheer the sophomore students as they move on to the next phase of high school.
Sophomores are sometimes ignored when it comes to special events because they are not newbies like the freshmen, they are not involved in testing like the juniors and they are certainly not getting ready to graduate like the seniors. Many times we ask ourselves, "What is so wonderful about being a sophomore?" The answer to that is this celebration. Sophomores can pat themselves on the back for beating the odds. Nearly 100% of the Half Cap candidates successfully graduate in their senior year and attend great colleges. Three cheers for the Sophomore class for a job well done so far.
