Kelly students “Pay it Forward” to the Brighton Park Community

Kelly High School AVID students discovered the satisfaction of “paying it forward” last Saturday. AVID students fanned out across the Brighton Park Community looking for ways to do random acts of kindness and show their community that Kelly High School students know how to make a positive contribution to their neighborhood. Most students went to the 4600 block of South Fairfield to paint porches and plant flowers. Neighbors bought them donuts and hot chocolate to help keep them warm on an unseasonably cold May morning. Other students handed out fruit and snacks to kids at McKinley Park and coloring books to kids at the lavanderia. Parents doing their laundry were treated to a free wash while their children were entertained. All good deeds were sponsored by the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council with materials provided by the Home Depot. The concept of “paying it forward” is based on the book students read, saying that good deeds should be given freely with no return expected as long as the recipient promises to do something for someone else.
