Notes From the Principal

Important things you Really do Not have to know.
1.  Myth:  Julius Caesar was a Roman Emperor.  Fact:  in Caesar's time Rome was a republic and had no
emperor.  The Roman Empire didn't exist until 17 years after Caesar's death.

2.  Myth:  You should drink eight 8oz glasses of water a day.  Fact:  The bottled water industry loves this myth,
but according to kidney specialist, Dr. Heinz Vaugh, there is no evidence to support the claim.

3.  Myth:  Diamonds are the most valuable gem.  Fact:  Carat for carat, rubies are by far more valuable than
                 diamonds.

4.  AC/DC.  Chosen because it fit the band's "high voltage" sound.

Teacher:  "Give me a sentence with an object."
Student:  "You're very beautiful, teacher."
Teacher:  "What's the object?"
Student:  "A good grade!"
                                     *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *
Teacher:  "Give me an example of a collective noun."
Student:   "Garbage can."

Words For the Week

WORD POWER
Vocabulary words for the week will appear in the bulletin and on the school=s R/TV broadcasts.  Please incorporate these words for the week into your daily lesson plans.  The words should be noted in your lesson plan books.  Vocabulary words are meant as enrichment for class work and standardized tests.  In order to allow teachers time to enter vocabulary words into their lesson plans, we will be providing words for the following week in this bulletin.  Lesson plan books will be checked periodically for incorporation of these terms.

This week's words are:

  erudite  learned, scholarly
His lecture proved him to be an erudite person.
protuberance  something that sticks out, bulges
The protuberance below the skin of his neck turned out to be a carbuncle.
 stringent  strict, rigid, tight, convincing
Because of the abuses that have crept in stringent regulations were made.

Next week's words are:

askance  with a side glance of disapproval
His dad looked at him askance.
inscrutable  incapable of being searched into and understood
The inscrutable countenance of a good poker player helps him win the game.
nominal  in  name only, not in fact
He is only the nominal president.

Character Trait of the Month
